Boy, I really do not like to give bad or mediocre ratings, but our little Blue Ridge is growing up and there are simply better options now. As cabin owners in BR for the past 15 years, we have seen the culinary scene grow and change and are so proud of what's going on in the area, but with a heavy heart, Black Sheep is officially off of our recommendation list. We have been 1/2 dozen times in the past year and each time there were issues with the food, service or for heaven's sake, the management. As a food-dude, kitchen coach and chef-instructor I learned along time ago that it has to be about taking great care of the customer. Most of us don't expect perfection and stuff happens that the team cannot control, but dadgumit, do your BEST to make it right if possible. We loved the menu and the setting in any season. But for an average ticket for 4 guests that can well exceed $125 just be glad to see us and help us enjoy an evening without the attitude, the wait (told 15 min, was actually an hour) and correct the mistakes (Duck was served with grits when we ordered potatoes and we were charged for the "extra side"). The drink order was wrong both times and the server's ONLY comment and resolution was: "Its just so loud in here, I thought you ordered something else..." He charged us for his mistake and when I brought it to his attention, the manager came over and said: "So, what was the deal with your drinks?"...Done...

Tripped over this place. Food was amazing and service was awesome. We started with the bbq pork belly slider appetizer. Pork belly was perfect as was the coleslaw that came with. The housemade bleu cheese dressing is simply perfect. I would have licked the bowl if I could have. For our entrees we had the duck and the vegetarian special of the day, Japanese eggplant parmesan. They make their pasta in house and it had the perfect "chew". The duck was cooked beautifully in a wonderful citrus glaze. Definitely a place to put on your list to visit....it will not disappoint!

We brought 4 kids and 4 adults into BS and they took very good care of us. Great hospitality and atmosphere. The menu was very diverse with something for everyone. Enjoyed the entire experience and would definitely recommend.

Spectacular food and service! We also had some dietary restrictions and the chef himself came out to talk to us. He told us he would make anything we wanted and then came back out to make sure we liked it. The fish and chips with slaw and kettle chips were awesome. The omelettes were wonderful and the caprese salad was yummy! Such an awesome experience.

My wife and I decided to go here for dinner on our visit to blue ridge and it was definitely worth it! We were able to sit out on the covered porch and all of the staff were very friendly and inviting. My wife got the cod special (which she is still raving about) and I got the spaghetti and meatballs the portions were very good sized. I would definitely recommend stopping in here if you're looking for a great meal!

When I bite into a completely RAW, COLD piece of fish at a place that charges $13 for two pieces of cod with potato chips (because fries would cost $4 more) I feel sick literally. Now I am spending my evening vomiting. This place is WAY overpriced and obviously they can't even cook food to the correct temperature. This place must have so many good reviews because there are so little places to choose from.

Black Sheep is an excellent dining choice while in Blue Ridge. Black Sheep Tuna Nachos: Really tasty!! They could lighten up on the wasabi though... there were a couple of bites where it really hit you kind of hard. Duck entree: My husbands dish - he loved it. Not much else I can say because I didn't specifically ask him... I had the Tuna entree - it was delicious! There was an orange glaze over it that complimented the tuna well - and the mashed potatoes it came with were literally the best I've ever had. I usually eat a couple of bites of mashed potatoes and get tired of them... but I ate every single bite on my plate! Peanut-Butter Banana Pie - I call this a 'man' dessert ;) I feel that men typically like the whole peanut butter/chocolate thing way more than the women in my life... but this was so tasty!! I thought it would be a bit much, but the pretzels really help break down the richness. My husband had his eyes closed while eating this thing... I'm actually not even joking. He was having a moment.

Visiting Blue Ridge for the weekend, from Atlanta. This was a great find. Homie atmosphere with delicious food. The service was a little slow, but friendly and welcoming so it didn't bother us.... We were busy chatting and enjoying the patio. We ate at 4-5 restaurants during our stay here and this was definitely our favorite.

The setting of the Black Sheep is lovely, quaint and a bit quirky. The waitstaff is attentive and informative. The food, while not particularly adventurous, is tasty and well-prepared. The restaurant boasts an extensive wine list that patrons are able to peruse on their individual iPads. The menu is heavy on substantial meat dishes, most welcome for those with hearty appetites but a bit disappointing for those seeking a more inventive offering. All in all a pleasant place to pass an evening in this delightful mountain town.

Very cool atmosphere at Black Sheep. It's a house that has been converted into a restaurant walking distance from the shops in town. Everything we ordered was excellent especially the Elvis Pie! We had a free desert from our cabin rental place and used it there. We decided on Black sheep from Yelp and Google reviews and they did not disappoint! Yum!

Just not a five star place. I found the food quality and the price just isn't on par with each other. There were five meals at our table and each one of them had something burnt. At 30.00 for a risotto, the plate should have come out perfect and delicious making me want more. It was more like meh. I should have chosen better. A little seasoning would not have hurt it at all.

Definitely a gem in the community of Blue Ridge, and certainly worth checking out. I came here on the recommendation of a friend with a small group of folks when we were up in the mountains celebrating my partner's b-day... and I'm glad for the recommendation because this place is awesome! We came at lunch, so most of us ordered sandwiches, all of which were super tasty. I had the French Dip, which was totally yummy... and Tony ordered the Turkey Club, which was equally as tasty. Other items ordered by my party included the Fried Grouper Sandwich and Fish & Chips... and everyone had nothing but praise for all of their selections. As for sides, be sure to check out the sweet potato fries and blue cheese slaw--both are super tasty. I also recommended the chocolate, peanut butter, and banana dessert. I forget what they called it on the menu, but it was super yummy. Check out my pics to get a glimpse of it... and ask the waiter about it if you check this place out. I'm sure they'll know what it's called. Black Sheep also features a full bar, including a large selection of draft beers... and their drinks are very reasonably priced (craft brewery draft beers were only $5 -- awesome). Also, the entire staff is first-rate--from the hostess, to the busboy, to the waitress... they did everything right. The ambiance at Black Sheep is more upscale but still super inviting. I mean, they feature sandwiches on their lunch menu, and my entire party wore jeans... but don't let that fool you. The restaurant was built in a large, historical house that was converted into a restaurant... and they feature fine tablecloths, etc. etc. Check this place out if you're in the area. You won't be sorry... and you'll probably have food envy like I did when I looked around at other dishes as they came by... damn, I wanted that corned beef and cabbage!!!!

My family and I decided to try this new spot when I was up visiting Blue Ridge... The decor is amazing its a gorgeous place and the staff was very friendly... They had great modernized versions of comfort food.. Its a pretty pricey upscale place so I suggest if you are on a budget come for lunch you can get the same dinner items at a more affordable price.. My mom and I got the meatloaf and the portion was huge and also very tasty I can't believe we both cleaned our plates... A reminder if you come for Sunday Brunch make sure you come after 12:30 if you want a cocktail... No alcohol before 12:30. I think we will def come here again on my next visit...

So happy that I chose this place for our anniversary dinner. We had a reservation at 730, which they called earlier in the afternoon to confirm. The restaurant is a bit off of the "main" road where a lot of the other shops and restaurants are, which was really nice. The entire building had a great welcoming feeling. Upon arrival, we were taken to our table in one of the front rooms. The restaurant is set up beautifully and has pretty nice decor. It is not overwhelming or cramped. We were sat at the table with an iPad to view the drink selection they had. My husband chose a beer (from a local brewery- Grumpy Old Men Brewing) and said it was delicious. I chose a moscato that was served in a beautiful flute that had a sugar rim and strawberry on it. We each ordered a salad as an appetizer. I had the caprese salad and my husband had the baked pear salad. Both were fantastic and quite large! The caprese salad had the best beefsteak tomatoes I've ever eaten. The mozzarella tasted so fresh. His baked pear salad was interesting and had a fantastic flavor. For our entrees, I ordered the duck breast and my husband ordered the pork chop. The duck breast as cooked perfectly. There was quite a lot on the plate, too! The raspberry demi-glace it came in was probably the best I've ever tasted. It said it was served with a creamy risotto, but it was more of a mixed vegetable rice. It was absolutely delicious, but I would certainly not consider it a risotto- even if it is cooked with arborio rice. It also came with carrots and asparagus. The pork chop was a bit overcooked when requested at medium rare, but with the red wine sauce, it was perfect. The mashed potatoes were standard whipped potatoes served at restaurant. We ordered the white chocolate cookie bar (which had coconut, my favorite!) with lemon sorbet. It was fantastic! I could have eaten about three more... When we received our bill, we noticed the prices were cheaper than on the menu! Not that I am complaining. It was a nice surprise. I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Blue Ridge area.

Found a brochure in our cabin and decided to try this place. It is nicely decorated. The waitresses are a bit abrupt and despite the daily special consisted of 2 entrees, she had to read them off her pad, and still had trouble. We were a party of five for lunch and did not have reservations. It was almost 1:00pm and not at all crowded but the hostess needed to go ask if we could be seated!! At this point there were more servers than guests. The food.... My husband and I both started off with a corn chowder that the waitress said had no potatoes so I am not sure what the white potato type substance was in the soup. It was bland and needed salt and pepper. My husband ordered the Club. It was impressive in size but the turkey lacked for taste. He also had coleslaw and fries. He said the fries were the best part. Both of my sons, one in college the other in high school, had the brisket sandwiches. Pretty to look at but FULL of fat. It should have been trimmed! Homemade chips kind of soggy and crispy. My college aged daughter went with the meatloaf. Served with mashed potatoes, carrots and green beans. I would not recommend this dish. The meatloaf was once again bland. It has no tomato and was a disturbing color of grey brown. The potatoes and veggies were just that. I got one of the specials. A steak taco. It was great! Steak was cooked perfect and had mushrooms and onions. I also had the coleslaw. It was also delicious! I had the chips too. I was beginning to wonder if this restaurant caters to the elderly crowd as spices are missing from most dishes. Our lunch was over $100 and the wait staff is somewhat loud and gruff. Would not recommend.

Oh my goodness, we are so glad that we found this place! My family and I have a place in Blue Ridge, and we're always looking for delicious restaurants whenever we visit. We were just up a few weeks ago, and noticed the Black Sheep advertisement when we rode the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway so we decided to check it out that evening. It was lucky that we spotted that ad, because we probably would have never seen Black Sheep since it is not located on the main strip of downtown Blue Ridge. I started off with the Honey Lamb cocktail, which was so good we all ended up ordering two! Then I had the Caprese salad, which was a pretty large portion. Tomatoes must really be in season, because that was the best Heirloom tomato I think I've ever had. Then for my meal I had the lobster roll, which was savory and delicious. We are all crossing our fingers that the word gets out about this delightful gem, and we can keep going back for years to come.

My husband and I had brunch on the outside patio Sunday. I started with half a dozen raw oysters - they were amazing and I could have easily eaten a dozen! I loved that there were so many choices from the "raw bar," and our waiter's suggestion of the kind was spot-on (from Virginia, I wish I could remember the specifics!). A raw bar is definitely unexpected in Blue Ridge, but very exciting. As my main course I got the lobster roll with shoestring fries. When it came out I was a bit shocked at how small it was - but the size was deceiving; the bun was tiiiiiny, but it was packed with fresh chunks of lobster meat and drizzled with butter - no mayo in sight, the real New England way! It was delicious, I mean really, really good. The lobster tasted like it had just come out of the ocean. I was stuffed and couldn't even really eat the fries, but they were very good, salty with a little pepper and just the right crunch for shoestring. I also had a Bloody Mary with the house vodka - Deep Eddy, a good well choice - and it was, frankly, perfect. My husband ordered the tuna nacho salad. It definitely wasn't what he was expecting, but it was good. The tuna was perfectly cooked (he specifically asks for it a bit more than rare, he doesn't like it cold, and it was just right), but be warned: the wasabi dressing is a bit overwhelming. Note to management: you may want to let people know about the wasabi dressing - it wasn't listed on the menu; my husband has very bad acid reflux and would have certainly ordered it light or on the side. He liked it but would probably not order again, only because it was basically just the very good tuna, won ton strips and spinach leaves. He followed up with the homemade cheesecake. I had a bite and it was very good, but overpriced at $9. Our waiter, Robbie, was extremely friendly but we did seem to wait quite a bit longer than the other tables around us; we saw they got drinks and food before us but they came in after us. But we were kid-free for the day so we were in NO rush! This restaurant is a GREAT addition to Blue Ridge - we can't wait to go back!

Best finer dining restaurant in Blue Ridge, GA area (Cucina Rustica is best Italian). Engaged owner and manager. Great wait staff and service. Tasteful setting and both more formal and more casual rooms. Good wine list at reasonable prices. For wine, I would stick with what you know or can research. I was pointed to a 2009 dogliotti barola vendemmia, which had no complexity or structure. It was not offensive but I would have paid more for a better quality Barolo or Amarone. That said, I highly recommend the restaurant and the bar.

I took my family here for the first time. Very noisy was our first impression but it was mostly a large loud table directly behind us. I loved my scallops with fresh corn. Amazing! My mom got the oysters rockefeller and was not impressed. She felt the spinach on top was too much and watery which in turn made the oyster real wet. She likes it more roasted and fired on top. Not much cheese either. My dad had a antipasto salad and was very happy. My little girl had the candied bacon and we will not order that again. It was like a half a pack of bacon half cooked crisp and the other half limp with a sweet brown gravy poured on top then a bunch of garlic and spinach underneath. She loved the spinach and the crunchy half but the rest of the table was not impressed. We expected crispy strips of caramelized in sugar bacon. Not too hard? The entrees were all good. My mom got the special lasagna roll which she felt needed more red sauce so it wasn't so chewy on the outside. And I had the seafood risotto that was very nice but rich. My favorite dish was my son's and that was rice in a spicy homemade tomato sauce with crab claws, shrimp and lobster. Really good! My dad is mostly vegetarian and he had stuffed cabbage with spinach and red peppers which he enjoyed. Our table did get bread after we asked for it. It wasn't anything special but we liked the raspberry butter it came with. I enjoyed going on the website and reading the history of the house and Fanny Butt. The IPAD is for drinks and this was not explained to us at first. A very extensive drink list of very old fashioned drinks and new ones too. I enjoyed the dinner overall and will definitely return. Now I know what not to order and I have a few things I would like to try different next time. Without our reviews how will they ever know? See you next time!

I had two meals at Black Sheep during my vacation in Blue Ridge. I enjoyed both quite a bit. The food menu as well as the alcohol menu (iPad) are both classic. On the food side, everything I ordered was excellent. Outstanding was the Tuna Nachos, which is essentially tuna tataki cubed on a bed of baby spinach and fried wontons. They're sauced in ponzu and a chilli-aioli. My date ordered seafood pasta Fra Diavolo. It was served with marinated peppers on the side to allow you to adjust the heat. Unfortunately, this means that the peppers don't get the chance to blend with the red sauce. My gnocchi (a special) was house-made. I would have preferred the dumplings a bit firmer, but they were still tasty. The iPad alcohol menu has an impressive depth, particularly of white wines. My primary gripe is that the outdoor part of restaurant has two large televisions one of which had Fox News (sound off.) Best case scenario: you agree with the politics of Fox News and you get to see commercials for incontinence pads. Worst case scenario (me): you find the scrolling text to be distracting and offensive. I should note that the indoor seating was television free, but I'm not sure I should have to make that trade off.

Excellent food, service was good. I had the half boneless chicken and I couldn't have been more pleased! Delicious! The house made lemonade was incredible, try it!
